Math Teacher Slays With 'Formation' Remix To Teach Kids Geometry

This teacher and her students go hard in the name of math.

Ciera Paul, a seventh-grade math teacher at ReNEW Cultural Arts Academy in New Orleans, unleashed her inner-Beyoncé and created a math version of the hit “Formation” so her students would learn how to find the area of a circle.

Paul recently shared a video of her students performing the remix on Facebook and let’s just say, they slay, they slay.

“Complementary is 90 degree angles/Supplementary equals 1-8-0/I solved the problem like I’m a superhero,” the students sing. “I bring As home in my bag/Swag.”

The song didn’t just tackle math. It also mentioned good study habits — which Bey would probably agree — can help anyone be a star.

“I see it I want it/I study, perform it/ I dream it I work hard I grind ’till I own it,” the song goes. “I laugh at them haters/I do my tarea/In my desk sitting straight up taking notes on my paper.”

The math teacher told ABC News that she wrote the song in about 30 minutes and the students practiced it five minutes a day over the course of two weeks. And while it’s clear the students are having a blast performing the song, Paul told the outlet that the addition of fun, creative elements into her lessons have also resulted in a boost in the kids’ grades.

“It’s just something out of the box that the kids can relate to. The kids are looking for something that’s fun and enjoyable, and adding a little song or dance makes [the lesson] more memorable for them,” she told ABC News.
