Matais Pouncil is delighted to serve at West Valley College with such esteemed faculty, staff, and Administrators. “The desire for, and sincere work towards, professional excellence at West Valley College is absolutely stunning”, he says. Dr. Pouncil attended Southern University, in Baton Rouge, LA, California State University, Long Beach, and he is the first African American man to earn an Ed.D. from the University of California, Irvine. He recently completed the Management Development Program (MDP) at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

With over fifteen years of experience, at five community colleges in both northern, and southern, California, Dr. Pouncil brings a respected breadth of experience to student services. In addition to being Dean of Student Services, Dr. Pouncil enjoys live music, modern dance, reading, and mentoring students. Fun fact: he hasn’t owned a T.V. in seventeen years.
